There are so many different brands of coffee roaster machines, so how do Roast Masters choose the right machine as their co-worker? (and why so many Roast Masters choose Hartanzah Roasters as their best friends
Point 1 = Coffee roaster size and design
If you have decided to meroasting your own coffee beans or starting a coffee roastery business, then the first thing to consider is how to choose the right coffee roaster machine for you.
This decision will be one of the most important choices when it comes to the quality of the coffee you make (there is nothing worse than buying the wrong type of roaster for your current and future needs).
1.1 Size of coffee roaster
The coffee roaster machine is made in a variety of sizes with the purpose of customizing Roast Master’s needs, if you need it for your own small scale you can choose a coffee roaster with 1kg of production per batch but if you also want to sell roasted beans and provide roasting services of course a 1kg machine is not enough, you can start to consider a coffee roaster machine with a capacity of 3kg per batch even larger.
Consider the scale of the business you plan and how your business will project in the next year, as your business can grow exponentially and require larger engine sizes.
Here is a guide to choosing a machine on a production scale per batch with an estimated 8 hours per day with a roasting time of 10 ~ 15 minutes per batch
HSR 01 DB (1kg gas coffee roaster) Roasting Capacity = 4 kg per hour = 32 kg per 8 hours
HSR 03 DB (3kg gas coffee roaster) Roasting Capacity = 12 kg per hour = 96 kg per 8 hours
HSR 05 DB (3kg gas coffee roaster) Roasting Capacity = 20 kg per hour = 160 kg per 8 hours
HSR 10 DB (3kg gas coffee roaster) Roasting Capacity = 40 kg per hour = 320 kg per 8 hours
HSR 15 DB (3kg gas coffee roaster) Roasting Capacity = 60 kg per hour = 480 kg per 8 hours
1.2 Engineering Design Coffee Roaster
Each unit of Hartanzah Roasters goes through a rigorous engineering analysis phase .
Engineering analysis for the right thickness, shape and type of material is very important in producing a coffee roaster machine so that it can produce coffee with perfect roasting consistency.
The roaster machine should be designed not only to look beautiful but also be able to work optimally with high repetitions and ergonomics, making it easier for Roast Master to create coffee according to roasting plan.
Point 2 = Machine price and installation cost
Start making decisions with clear data, can you create a price comparison list from different brands of roaster machines to see if the prices and features offered are within your budget? how much money should you be able to spend? Does the price match the quality of the machine you want.
Roaster machines that are low quality and in production without proper analysis will certainly find it difficult to get the perfect roasting result (this will hurt your business).
And remember to consider the costs associated with buying roaster machines such as installation costs, shipping costs, electricity costs and the cost of setting up the room, so you can clearly see the color of the coffee
beans during the process.
Point 3 = Features and Functions
There are three important things to keep in mind in the process of roasting coffee: small-scale fire control and air flow control. Variable drum speeds are also required to raise the conductivity ratio, and all of these functions must be easily controlled.
Hartanzah Roasters comes with a multi-stage burner, with two independent burners making it easy to control your heat input by simply pressing the button (unconventional rotating gas valve) to follow the roasting profile of your choice. Combined with electrical control for airflow, you can easily control conduction, convection and radiation during your roasting process.
You should also consider connectivity. Sooner or later, you’ll want to connect your coffee roaster to data logging software, like Artisan or Cropster to automatically record the S curve so you can copy the profile as a background / guide the next time you want to meroasting with the same results, so check to see if your coffee roaster has data output (USB or Ethernet) and whether the software you are planning to use is compatible with the coffee roaster’s built-in communication path.
It is worth mentioning that, if you are familiar with electronics and software, you can customize / connect almost any machine to any software although a new thermal probe and data communication path may be required.
Point 4 = Easy to use and easy to install
You want your daily roasting process to go smoothly. This means that the key controls in the machine must be clearly recognizable and placed intuitively.
You should be able to control the burner and airflow quickly, if the machine is using touch screen / HMI make sure all controls are not in the sub menu (must open menu on monitor to access other menu) as it will interfere with control of main controls machine. And make sure the location of the ergonomic panel board matches your view and reach when grilled.
Point 5 = Maintenance
All roaster machines must be maintained on a regular basis, as the roasting process will produce residues such as chafts and oils that are chemically modified during the roasting process.
It is important to choose a roaster machine that is easy to maintain on a regular basis.
TRUE roasters are designed to be easy to assemble and separated by simple workshop tools so that the general public can perform the treatment easily. The following is an example of a routine cyclone image of a roaster engine cyclone.
Point 6 = Location of the seller and after sales service
Find out if there are distributors for your selected machine in your country.
This is useful for a number of reasons. First, you can get a quick demonstration of your machine’s usage and response time by phone to help you detect light obstacles.
If there is no service center in your country then you will need to bring in a technician from that machine (overseas technicians will require a great deal of extra cost and longer response time)
Point 7 = Testimonials
Find information from other users who have used your preferred coffee roaster machine and ask for their opinion. Are they satisfied with the quality? What’s the great feature about it? what are the common problems? how time responds when there are constraints.
Point 8 = Used machine sale price
Relatively good resale prices, a positive indication for the coffee roaster brand, there are even machines that have no used machines on the market because no one is selling the product again.
The main reason for selling used coffee roaster machines is because they require more capacity than they currently have. And the reason for consumers to buy this machine is in the old condition, even though it is old but the performance of the machine is still in prime condition. That’s why you need a high quality coffee roaster to keep the prices high.
There are many things to consider in choosing the right coffee roaster as this is an important (and huge) investment. But if you consider all of the above points you can make the right choice that all Roast Masters have made.
